A long drive to Vellore

On Saturday, I along with my cousin, जीजाजी and my niece went for a long drive to Vellore, which is 140 km from Chennai on the Chennai-Bangalore highway. There is a Golden Temple (Southwala) at Sripuram, 8 km from Vellore.

We took about 2 hours in reaching Vellore from the border of Chennai, though it took us an hour in touching the border. We first went to the golden temple where photography was not allowed. The temple is in huge area with big garden and a star shaped pathway around it. They made us walk a full round of the garden before entering in the main temple. We took special entry pass, which wasn't too crowded but still it took us 2 hours to come out and you can imagine what happened to our feet in the sun.

In the afternoon we headed towards Vellore for lunch. As per my habit I had taken some printouts but didn't read them; it had some articles about 'places to eat'. On the way we found a decent hotel: Surabhi International. They had two different restaurants for veg
and non-veg. After entering, I read those articles and found that there was one more restaurant down the lane named Darling, which had amazing food especially steak and sizlers. But that article was only talking about non-veg and we had already given the order so we stayed back. The food (tandoori) was decent in Surabhi and even the hotel was looking good.

Then we headed to the only fort in Vellore, which had only the outer boundary wall with moat. There was boating available but we didn't have time. We took a walk under the trees and with the cool breeze.
It was a nice place for picnic. There was a museum and a church in the periphery of the fort. We did some photography and then we headed back to Chennai.

Vellore is about midway from Chennai and Bangalore. The drive is very nice which makes this place so easy to visit. For people from these metros, it is a nice place for picnic and has a temple too for your spiritual needs. But mind you this temple is made (or say covered) of gold and has idol of goddess Mahalakshmi.
